Location: Ian McLean’s Party - Connie Condon’s Farm - Hebron, New York
Set Placement: Set 2 of 3 (set closer)
Section A: 2:04
Section B: 3:12
Section C: 7:02
My Rating (out of 5): 4.75
Notes: Section A features some of the most interesting playing of any before this date; the tempo changes are playful and set the tone for one of the best versions of Hood in the 80s. Section B is a tad faster than normal (it seems Fishman may have gotten his hands on a strange substance out at the farm). Section C is wonderful psychedelic Phish in its early raw form. Page is on fire the entire tune and the “thank you Mr. Hood” vocals offer a new twist as the song moves into section C.
“Mister HOOOoooooOOOOoooD….. Mister HOOOoooooOOOOoooD…..”
Side note: At the song’s conclusion, Trey announces: “Okay so anyway… the cops are here so… don’t worry about it [laughs].” Busted!
